WOTM Chapter 2232

The Chapter is looking forward to an exciting new year.
The Youth Involvement Committee has made plans for the children and teens for the summer, so please check back to the site often to stay current on events.

The committee chairmen will be meeting to receive their information packets, so you will be hearing from your chairman soon.  You will receive a letter sometime in May placing you on one of our Standing Committees.

Those committees are:  Membership, Publicity, Youth Involvement, Mooseheart, Community Service, Educational Awareness, Moosehaven, and Health Awareness.  Your active involvement will ensure that the Chapter has a successful year.

Remember to turn in your Community Service hours, miles and dollars donated to the Community Service Chairman for her quarterly report.

Check the bulletin board in the Social Quarters for the latest upcoming events and announcements from International.

HISTORY OF THE WOMEN OF THE MOOSE

The Women of the Moose is the women's component of the Moose organization. Convening their first  annual conference in conjunction with the Loyal Order Of Moose Convention in 1913, the organization was originally called the "Women's Loyal Moose Circle,” and in 1916 was made a subgroup of the Mooseheart Legion.  Under its first chief executive, Katherine Smith, the group became independent and was renamed "Women of the Moose" in 1931.

There are presently more than 1,800 Chapters of the Women of the Moose in the United States and Canada, with a late-1990s membership of approximately 540,000. Each Chapter is instituted to promote the principles, ideals, and philanthropic purposes of the fraternity. The growth and progress of the Women of the Moose are the result of the program of committees established in 1927.  The committees provide activities that interest all members in the Chapter, and the funds raised by each committee assist in
maintaining Mooseheart and Moosehaven.

Honors are awarded to Chapter officers, chairmen, escorts, and the Ritual Director who meet specific requirements during the Chapter year. These honors are referred to as degrees, and they consist of the Academy of Friendship, Star Recorder, and College of Regents. The Academy of Friendship Degree was first awarded in 1927, the College of Regents Degree was conferred in 1935, and the first Star Recorder Degree in 1946.  The Academy of Friendship Degree is conferred in each state and province
annually, and the College of Regents and Star Recorder Degrees are conferred annually at the International Conference.

The great accomplishments of the Women of the Moose are many and varied. Cooperation between the Lodges and Chapters is essential in providing for Mooseheart and Moosehaven-- and for participating in community services.  Every community benefits when a Lodge and Chapter are located jointly within its limits.

Children Learn What They Live - So Can We
by Dorothy Law Nolts

When we come together to conduct our meetings, to assist at our fundraising functions, to honor those who have attained degrees, to welcome new members, or simply to enjoy the benefits of membership, we sometimes forget that our thoughts, words, and actions touch and influence the thoughts, words, and actions of others. We sometimes forget  that what we say or do, or don't do, also affects the lives of the children in our care.

The Mooseheart staff is very much aware of how one thought, one word, or one action affects the life of a child. We, as adults, can also learn that we can be affected in the same way. For instance, here are facts that we must understand about children and, in fact, may also apply to adults:

If Children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.

If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.

If children live with ridicule, they learn to be shy.

If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty.

If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence.

If children live with tolerance, they learn to be patient.

If children live with praise, they learn to appreciate.

If children live with acceptance, they learn to love

If children live with approval, they learn to like themselves.

If children live with honesty, they learn truthfulness.

If children live with security, they learn to have faith in themselves and others

If children live with friendliness, they learn the world is a nice place in which to live.

Co-workers, if we apply ourselves to our interactions with other members, attendance and participation at our meetings and our functions will surely increase. And, with that increase, our chapters will enjoy membership growth and financial success.
